Okay, after much delay, it’s here.
AniFetch is a free software which notifies you when someone releases something that you’re specifically interested in, on most animes torrent sites. But in fact, you can use the program for a much wider variety of websites.
AniFetch

- Program icon can be hidden from taskbar and work in the background
- History window keeps track of the latest 70 notifications
- Instant access to the file from the news (if any)
- Low CPU usage
Future updates :
- Load and save templates for websites
- Clear oldest entry from history

I went through a lot of testing, but nothing’s ever perfect. If you have any problem/suggestion/critic, feel free to post them here. Thanks
Changelog :
[Released] Version 1.0.1.3
[Fixed] Fetch timer would incorrectly resume in a particular situation.
—————————————————————
[Released] Version 1.0.1.2
[Updated] Program’s encryption has been slightly changed. This should remove false positive detections from several anti-virus programs (please note that this does not change anything about the installer. It only applies to the program executables themselves).
[Added] “Edit” button to edit an existing website.
[Updated] The history list’s will now always show the latest fetched news on top of history, and the oldest ones at the bottom.
[Fixed] The history list’s vertical scrollbar will now properly show itself when reaching more than 10 websites in history.
[Fixed] Program would not fetch a website properly if Title or Torrent tags contained the ” symbol
[Fixed] Program would not get the right torrent link if it was located before the “Title tag” on a same line.
—————————————————————
[Released] Version 1.0.0.1
[Updated] History now saves up to 70 entries. This is to avoid overlapping, as the program reads through the history to avoid duplicate notifications about news you were already notified of.
[Fixed] The “Get Source :” button would not launch Wordpad properly if file path contained spaces
—————————————————————
[Released] Version 1.0.0.0

This is a great idea. Definitely will give it a go once I get home and come back to provide my thoughts. Out of interest what license is this being released under?
It is my self-made license actually. Because I do not want people to redistribute it without my consent, the software does not fit in any of the common licenses people are aware of (GNU, CC, etc).
In any case, if people want to break the rules, they’ll do it regardless of the type of license anyway. I’d have been much more thorough if it was for commercial use, but that’s not the case here. It’s just a small program I meant to share in a “friendly” way and not in a professional way.
Glad to see it’s out; I’ll see how well it works once something is released (unfortunately, finding the tags wasn’t as easy as just finding “”).
Also, what was that Touhou song that was playing near the end of the tutorial video? It sounded pretty good from what I could hear.
I may add auto-detection for the tags later, though it may be a bit complicated due to the wide variety of websites. If anyone needs advice on configuring AniFetch for a particular website, feel free to ask it here
I’ll also add wildcards later, because right now, leaving the trigger field blank does not make the program trigger on every entry.
For the song, it’s 緋色のクオリア from the QUALIA Album. It’s a quite nice album actually.
thank
Getting a weird error here. Firstoff: it wasn’t exactly working; I had set it to 30 min checks, but even an hour after an RSS feed updated, it didn’t update. I thought that maybe by restarting the program, it would start working from then on, but when I tried to open it again, I kept getting this (even though I installed with the most current version):
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx275/JumpsuitOtaku/Untitled-1-1.png
I tried doing it when not seeding/converting, but it didn’t get any different results. I don’t know what’s going on here.
Also, as a suggestion, maybe make an edit site button, so that if I had to change the tags a little, I wouldn’t have to Remove the website and then Add it again to change some info.
If it doesn’t fetch anything, there’s a high chance that you made a mistake in the site configuration.
If I may ask, what was the site you were trying to fetch the news from? and what did you put in the website configuration fields? I did lots of testing but of course I have my habits too.
For the edit button, yes that’s planned. May start working on it tomorrow.
As for the error, it’s a timeout message because the program failed to connect to the update server. Unfortunately it comes from the webhost and I can’t really help it. When it happens you can try again after a minute, it should work again. I’ll try to see if I can lower the timeout delay though, because I think it’s a bit high right now.
Right now there’s a security that prevents the user from using the program if it could not check for updates. I may remove it in the next version, though I’m not sure right now.
Well, I tried fetching it from the RSS feeds for the blogs of each site (ie: http://mazuisubs.com/rss.xml) and used the “title” scripts (ie: “title”Ore no Imouto ga konna ni kawaii wake ga nai 02″/title”)
Tried using it again, though, to see if I did indeed mess up, but again, it’s not starting up, so I’m guessing I’m blocked for whatever reason.
Yea I’ve checked that one. They have a really messy source code for the RSS page.
I’ve tried a custom setting and it seems I’m not getting what I expected (may be some array problem).
I’ll try to see if I can release a patch later today.
(This is Jumendez-sama, just made a Gravatar account for the lulz, but anyway…)
I tried starting the program again today, except instead of the other error popping up, McAfee kindly dropped the bomb on me, telling me that the program had a trojan in it.
I trust you enough that I know you didn’t mean this to be malicious, but apparently McAfee doesn’t. :\
Partially my fault for coding it in a language that some anti-virus natively Hate, with a big H. Probably wouldn’t have happened if I coded it with a standard language
If you still want to use it, try to add the exe to your anti-virus exception list (if it has one). Some don’t have one, so i can’t guarantee anything :s
On another note, I managed to pin down the problem you told me about. I think the problem was a misconfiguration on your end, but in any case it wouldn’t have worked because I found another error (coming from me this time). It was in fact an “exception” in the Trigger part that I didn’t take into consideration. I’m almost done coding a fix. I should be able to add that + the “edit” option for tomorrow.
Well, about that, while looking at my Anti-Virus to see if I could grant the program permission, I found out that the program only was granted Out-Bound Permission. Probably the reason why I never received anything…
If you want to know, it’s flagging something called “Artemis” in the file (idk if that’s the coding language you were talking about, but…); I’m only saying this because I’m hoping that this was something unimportant that can be taken out easily because it doesn’t seem McAfee isn’t that customizable.
I’ll see if emailing them the program will get it passed so an exception to it can be made; because that’s apparently the best I can do to get it working again.
For Artemis, I have no idea. May come from the installer software I used.
I coded the program using AutoIt (you can google it). Most anti-virus don’t like AutoIt because it can execute macros on a computer.
VirusTotal report
Emailing them the program sounds like a good idea. I actually never tried to do this so I dunno how much time it will take them to take it into consideration.
If I get too many people telling me about false positives, I’ll consider re-coding the entirety of the program in a more standard language (Java probably), I lack Java knowledge for some functions I coded on AutoIt, but on the long term it may prove more efficient.
Good news:
I installed the new version of AniFetch and McAfee hasn’t done anything about it.
Bad news:
-Tried closing the program and then starting again to see if I got that same error again, and I did
-I couldn’t send the last version to McAfee because all my email accounts don’t like the idea of someone sending an .exe file as an attachment, even if it’s in a zip file…
Good news in response to bad news:
-I set AniFetch to run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP SP3 (just for the lulz), and it actually worked. I don’t know why or if it’s actually ever going to auto-update from now on, but the point is it works, right?
Now, I just have to wait for stuff to come out (tomorrow) to see if it works, but thanks for the update!
Kinda strange, since VirusTotal says McAfee shouldn’t even flag it as positive. Guess I’ll never understand how these programs work.
I’m surprised about the compatibility mode too, since it should be unrelated.. but if this works, why not :p
Installer and program give a potentially unwanted program warning from eset nod32. It’s probably just its sensitive heuristics but that’s something to consider. Looks nice, though.
Yea, doesn’t surprise me that much. The exe does have some potential hidden windows and connects to a web server for the updates.
Not my style to put any nasty things inside a program, though I have no real way to show my good will
Interesting software you’ve made. Planning to give it a try. By the way, what was the program you used at the start of the video? The one you used when you were about to open anifetch, on the bottom left corner of the screen?
The Installer you mean? Bytessence InstallMaker. It’s used to create “professionnal-like” installers. Complete, and absolutely free with no ads
Or if you’re talking about the several icons that showed when I hover my mouse on the edge of the screen : Objectdock.
Thank you.
I’m not quite sure why but AniFetch is failing to launch properly on my laptop. It appears temporarily in processes before closing again but without a hint of the main interface.
I have tried redownloading, reinstalling and opening it in compatibility mode (my laptop’s OS is XP) to no avail, I’ve tried disabling my av software and also tried installing it onto one of our desktops in case it was just my laptop doing something strange but the same thing happened there using both windows 7 and XP. Any ideas on what is going wrong?
Hello Kakusu. Sorry for the late reply, I don’t check this site very often anymore (though you can head to the new site at neregate.com to continue the discussion there).
You’re the second person to report this problem to me, and this is indeed quite strange :/
I’ll have a look at it, as I’m planning on a new release pretty soon.
